Fractured Back!

So what do you do while waiting for MOWA to get an opinion...you break your back, litter ally. Yesterday I was giving a lesson to my 10 year old niece Allee, she was riding her pony Major who she has been riding for the past five months or so. She had a great warm up on him and then started over fences. It was of course about 100 degrees so the pony was starting to act like a pill, trying to grab the bit and run out of the arena so I told Allee to hop off and let me get on and ride him through it. Well...thats not quite how Major saw things happening. After about two minutes of riding him he let me have it. Out of no where he trough a hell of a buck throwing me off and then followed it up with trying to kick me while I was down, I literally had to duck and roll out of the way. I love ponies!! Anyways after a long ER visit, a few xrays, cat scan, iv, etc, it was concluded that I fractured my back in two places. I went to a back specialist today and he said that its going to take about 6 months to heal completely. He also gave me an awesome back brace, it is a real looker, just what I envisioned for my summer attire. UGGGHHH!!!! I am not a happy camper! I do feel so fortunate and Thank God that Allee was not on him when he pulled this and thank God that it wasnt worse. So now we're left trying to find Major a new home where he will not be ridden and if we cant, we may be faced with having to put him down. There is just no excuse for a 'childs' pony to act this way with such violence. Anyways, so now I'm hanging out with some pain meds, trying to heal a little before we travel! Nothing like picking up a 18 month old and a three year old with a fractured back, awesome!!!

I am soooo sorry to hear this- I know those back braces are NO FUN!

I could come and nurse you back to health in exchange for riding some of your (not crazy) horses!

I grew up riding and jumping- I was thrown into a fence when I was about 12 and then kicked- a bunch of broken ribs! I write this to let you know that I truly understand how you feel! I'm SO SORRY! Yeah, that pony may need to go elsewhere, eh? Little devil!
Hoping with you that a decision from MOWA comes soon! Take care!

Hey Tia! It's Allee. I'm sorry to say that I'm glad it was you and not me. But I didn't want him to buck me off - I might be hurt alot worse. I'm really sorry you're hurt. I hope it won't take so long. I wish I could help. I could babysit Ella while you are in bed.
Love,
Allee
